So many questions, if the answer is 'yes' to any of them, this workshop is for you.
If you are anything like me, 20 years or so ago when I first got hooked into the sound of harmonica, I rushed out bought a harmonica (the wrong one), got some instruction books (that I didn't understand), tried to play the blues (in the wrong keys) etc.... Fortunately, I battled my way through some of the hurdles and am now able to bring this workshop to you.
If only I had the chance to go to a workshop like this one, things would have been so much easier.
The intention of this workshop is to give a complete overview of the harmonica and the kick start that you need in the early stages of harmonica playing, tips, tricks, technique, history, where the harmonica fits into different kinds of music, what players you should check out plus loads more advice and information.
The format of the workshop will be part seminar, part lecture, part 'hands on’, part Q&A. It will be easy going and fun for all. The Workshop will be so informative that you never realized this little instrument had so much to harp on about.
This workshop is the one you need before the 'masterclass', I don't claim that it will propel you to superstar harmonica guru status in 3 hours but it will have you walking away with a better overall understanding of the harmonica and the confidence to take it that one step further.
This will be a group workshop with practical examples, you will need a harmonica if you wish to join in with the practical stuff but if you just want to sit and listen and absorbe the info, that is cool with me.
From the practical point of view I will be mainly focusing on the 10 hole diatonic harmonica (see picture above) in the key of C. You may already have one of these harmonicas or alternatively they are available at CJ’s Musicworks near south city mall on Columbo Street, or available to purchase from me on the day. (harmonicas range from aprox $18 to $50 depending on quality and brand) If you were intending to obtain one from me one the day, please let me know when you book you place to ensure i have the right number available.
What you need to bring.
Pen and paper ( if you want to take notes)
10 hole diatonic harmonic in the key of C (if you want to join in with the practical hands on stuff)
A good attitude (this always makes music sound better)
